There are a few preschools allow kids to start getting enrolled before the age of 3. Germany is very particular in matters concerning education and this practice is only allowed to make young children independent. Germans love the idea of early education for their children because that naturally inculcates values and habits which are good for the child’s future.

Types of Daycares and Preschools in Germany

A kinderkrippe is a type of a daycare or a creche. These are designed for children under the age of 3. Parents are expected to leave their toddlers in the Kinderkrippe where they will be looked after by a daycare teacher. Kids are taught fun, educational games and activities while they are left at the Kinderkrippe. The cost for this kind of daycare may vary from region to region. It is not free of cost or owned by the government of Germany.

Parents can leave their young children at kinderkrippes and go for work in the mean time. Young children are always in good hands and you can trust them while you are at work.

Kindergarten as we mentioned earlier, is for children between the ages 3-6. Children do not have a compulsion to study at that age. Kindergarten is just an option. Young children at kindergarten learn a lot of valuable and useful things which they will not get a chance to learn once they start going to school.

Kindergartens are German preschools which are usually run by churches, specially founded committees, local authorities or private institutions. They help children learn the skill of socializing and also prepare them for primary school.

Kindergarten is a preschool which does not run for long hours in the day like primary school. They usually start at 9 in the morning and end by afternoon.

Parents are expected to send their kids with a lunch box and some snacks because this daycare does not provide kids with food. Make sure you send your kids lunch if they are enrolled in a kita daycare.

Schulhort services begin later in the day after children get done with primary school. These services are amazing for working parents. Schooling in Germany

Schooling in Germany

The German schooling system is very unique compared to the ones in other countries. The very fact that Germany produces one of the best students year after year is no con-incidence. Most of the kids in Germany are usually attending pubic schools. They do have facilities available for private and international schools which are upcoming at the moment.

Most of the lectures in schools are taken in the German language which helps German students understand their syllabus better. As and when they grow, they are introduced to new languages too. Schools and their teaching material differ from state to state in Germany.Once a child is six years old, they have to go to school.

School attendance is almost a mandatory thing in Germany. Schooling is giving a lot of importance and respect there. Most German schools are operated and run by the state. A child’s parents have to pay nothing at all in order to get their children educated from these state schools. If you are looking to get your child educated from a private or an international school, you will have to pay a fee.

Individual states are responsible of creating study curriculum for their students. Syllabus and curriculums of study are different in every state. Your child’s education depends on where you live and what school your child ends up going to. From different textbooks to different kinds of schools, everything differs in every state.

Children of age 3-6 may or may not attend kindergarten. It is not compulsory but it is the parent’s choice of whether they want their child to start studying that early or not. Post that, school is compulsory for 8 to 10 years. The first aspect of schooling is elementary school which goes on from grade 1 to grade 4.

Elementary school has a uniform syllabus everywhere. Once the child is done with elementary school, it depends upon their performance and parent’s preferences as to what field the child needs to choose to complete their education. Kids are separated after grade 4 according to their academic abilities.

Kids have three options available to them;

Hauptschule, Realschule or Gymnasium. Teachers are supposed to recommend the right stream of study to their students considering the academic performance, self confidence and their ability to work independently. These three parameters decide which school is best suited for the child after grade 4. However, in most states and schools, parents have the final call of where they want their kids to study.

Hauptschule is a school which a student has to attend from grade 5 to grade 9. They teach the same subjects here just like the realschule and gymnasium but the pace at what they teach is a little slower. The also have some vocational- oriented courses which help the students get a better understanding of the syllabus. Kids basically have a part time enrolment in vocational school until the age of 18 years if they have opted for Hauptschule kind of school study.

The Realschule kind of education in Germany starts at grade 5 and ends at grade 10 in most states. Students enrol in part time vocational schools and higher vocational school once they have chosen the Realschule kind of study. Students who perform extremely well in this school can be granted a switch to Gymnasium schools on graduating.

The Gymnasium school prepare students for a diploma called the Abitur which helps students get into good German universities. This school helps students get a dual academic and vocational credential. The study matter and syllabus changes from school to school but the subjects generally remain the same.German, mathematics, music, physics, chemistry, computer science, biology, geography, and art are a few subjects that are a part of this curriculum. In the past few year, the Government has taken the initiative to change the syllabus slightly. This has been done to let students get their “Abi” after grade 12 itself. Many states are trying to make this change but that may require a grade 13 too.

There are different kinds of schooling options available for children in Germany. They are: –

Public Schools

Majority of the kids in Germany go to public schools. These schools are state funded and are mandatory to attend. These schools charge no fee for child education. They are absolutely free because they are Government schools. The entire formulation of the schooling system is a little different from the rest of the world. Education policy in Germany is funded by the individual federal states.

This means that every state has a different educational policy and each state can take their own decisions in terms of education. There is a great regional variation in the study material of Germany. Even school types differ in different states. However, state authorities sit together and discuss a common and comparable education system. This is done to ensure some uniformity of education in the German education system.

Private Schools

Private schools in Germany are owned by public institutions. There is a fee system is such schools. A parent needs to pay these school every year in order to get their children enrolled. Private schools here are allowed to operate in the same environment of public schools. They just need to get authorised by the Government to start the school. The regional government has the authority to check whether the public schools are at par with public schools in terms of education. If that is not the case, the regional government will not let the private school go forward.

In this article, we have taken the initiative to give you a gist of how the German School System operates. If you are looking to enrol your child in a school, this article will help you to be fully informed and make the right choice.

Student Emergency Loans During Covid19

Student Emergency Loans During Covid19

Students in Germany are heavily dependent on their part time jobs to sustain. They attend university lectures for a few hours at the beginning of the day and then head to work to earn their bucks. This year, because of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, and the strict lockdowns imposed in Germany, every student’s income has been highly affected. The situation went so out of control that the Government had to step in to help.

Students used to manage their food and rent expenses by the income they got through their part time jobs. These part time jobs were very important to them since they could freely bare the costs of their basic necessities. Now that the places where the worked to earn their extra income got shut due to lockdowns, students were not prepared with excess money to spend. Their part time jobs were a part of their livelihood which suddenly vanished due to the covid19 pandemic.

German students and universities have filed warnings for the coronavirus pandemic since the unprecedented lockdowns have wiped off their income coming from the part time jobs. The pandemic has left students in Germany stranded due to a huge financial crisis. The students in Germany are being forced to pay their regular tuition and accommodation fee without being able to use the facilities which is just adding on to their troubles in these stressful times. All the other expenses are supposed to be paid just as olden times but the no job situation is new. This situation is causing students a lot of money crisis for which they have to run out for emergency loans from the Government.

Due to all the money shortage, students are opting for taking loans. Over the past few months, a lot of students have been taking student emergency loans from the government which mount up to approximately a billion euros since so many students are asking for it.

The financial hardships that the students are facing is a huge deal for the German Government. If financial aid is not given in time, students will have to abandon their academics which will eventually cause more problems in the country. Around two thirds of students work alongside their degree and for international students, the numbers are higher. While there are a few who do not work, but that does not mean they are not affected at all by this since it is going to affect scholarships too.

Students wrote letters and letters to the Government expressing their struggles in these distressed times. It was very important for the management to help them in some or the other way. Giving them rapid access to interim financial aid was a need of the hour.

The Federal Government and the coalition have now announced a well- balanced plan for student financial aid. This plan has been made keeping in mind the current scenario. This plan will help the German students in need and will also ease off financial burden in the future.

Student Emergency Loans?

To combat these times the Government first had to come up with a solid plan. It is not fair for the students to have a debt on their heads while they are undergoing such a financial crisis at their end. The lawmakers in Germany came up with a draft on the 22ndof April, 2020, stating that the government would allow students to earn money in a broader range of fields which have been affected by the pandemic without a reduction in their state aid.

This is a very smart move by the German Government. Not only will this give a boost to the other industries of the economy, but it will also heavily benefit the students. This has the potential of generating more money in the system so that the rotation of cash takes place smoothly and everybody’s pocket gets a hike.

Student Emergency Loans for International students

Since May, 2020 German banks are offering loans to the students without any interest on them until March, 2021. This reform has been undertaken to help the German students in the harsh pandemic times. The new thing that has taken place in Germany is that, this offer is also available for international students. This has happened in Germany for the first time ever that students from abroad will have access to loan free loans for a limited period of time.

In specific terms, students can apply for a maximum of 650 Euros a month. This can go on for 14 whole semesters which comes up to 54,600 Euros. The loan can be applied for online without taking the trouble of physically going to banks to get the loans approved. The Government says, this is a fair and quick means of giving students financial aid. The concerned students now have access to immediate financial help which is mounting up to 1 billion Euros.

The offer was initially presented by the Federal Education Minister, Anja Karliczek as“interest-free”. She was eventually forced to withdraw her statement since the loan is not technically interest free. The “interest-free” policy is only applicable for the pay-out phase. Post that, the students will be eligible to pay heavier interests than what are available in the market.

The financial aid offered by the Government to university students was eventually slammed by a number of politicians. The politicians said that, the loan is like any other loan. Students are liable to pay heavy interests on it irrespective. It is just being marketed as an interest-free loan to save their reputation. Politicians have taken their opportunity to let the public know the truth entirely and not get fooled by the Government. The loan is going to be helpful in terms of being interest free only until the pandemic ends. Once things start getting better, students will be under twice the amount of pressure in order to repay the loans paying a higher rate of interest. The politicians in Germany have taken charge of letting the public know the truth to the fullest and not fall under the gimmick created by the Government.

The coronavirus pandemic has been an unprecedented crisis all over the world and the authorities universally do not know how to deal with it. The German Government came up with a set of policies to help their citizens and interest-free student emergency loans appear to be one of them. This article contains all that you need to know about the same!
